Tales of the Cornish Smuggler

1 Day

Our Tales of the Cornish Smuggling weekend, is a stunning look into Cornwall’s lawless, notorious history.  Around 1777 to 1807, John Carter, the King of Prussia Cove ruled the Lizard peninsula and carved his name into Cornish smuggling history.  We’ll walk this stretch of famous coast and leap into the crystal clear seas that these smuggling boats once ruled

Meeting time: 8:30 on Saturday morning ready to walk and swim from 9:00 Meeting place: Perranuthno car par park, by the beach

We would advise you to bring the following:

  • Sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses
  • Flip flops and suitable walking footwear and socks
  • Consider old footwear that you don’t mind getting wet and muddy
  • Some warm clothing to change into after your swims
  • Lightweight waterproof and warm coat (weather depending)
  • Drinking water
  • Swimming goggles and a towel
  • Binoculars (recommended)

If you are looking at camping options nearby, please see a recommended camping option below.

Accommodation – You are responsible for booking your own accommodation but here is a campsite option. I recommend staying near Perranuthno for this trip. It’s a small and perfectly formed camping experience.

"Just got back from an amazing day feeling nicely exhausted and with a huge sense of achievement. I would say this trip is ideal for someone like me who doesn’t have the confidence to walk the SW coastal path and wild swim by themselves but is keen for adventure and wants to explore this beautiful part of the UK. Edward the guide is so friendly and helpful. He clearly loves sharing the beauty of this very special area. His local knowledge is great and he showed us some stunningly secluded beaches with golden sand and crystal clear waters. I would love to go back and do it all again!" ~ J Shambrook

"Edward is an amazing person to speak to and has plenty of local knowledge. Highlight of the trip for me has been petting some gentle horses right next to a hidden beach which is only accessible on foot. It was a lovely experience only made better with the warm weather we were so incredibly lucky to have. Also, to quote Edward, "there is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing". The campsite recommended by him was clean, quiet, had ample amount of space and all the amenities we really needed. I went on this trip with no big expectations and returned with two full days' worth of delightful memories. The itinerary was well thought out and I hugely enjoyed the coastal walk with pit stops to experience the strong Cornish waves.

Already looking forward to re-visiting next summer!"
